Vicente Ferrer's biography
Vicente Ferrer (Barcelona (Spain) 9 April 1920 - Anantapur (India) 19 June 2009). During his youth, becomes part of the Society of Jesus in the hope of fulfilling his greatest desire and vocation: helping others.
In 1952, arrives in Mumbai as a Jesuit missionary to complete their spiritual formation, and there remains his first contact with India. From then on, devote the rest of his life working to eradicate the suffering of the poorest in the country.
Unfortunately, his work generates suspicion among the leading sectors, which see it as a threat to their interests and get an order to oust the country. Given this fact, more than 30,000 farmers, backed by intellectuals, politicians and religious leaders are mobilized in a 250km march to protest the expulsion order.
In an interview with Vincent, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi acknowledged their great work, pledging to seek a solution and sending this telegram: "Father Vincent Ferrer will go abroad for a short vacation and will be welcome again in India. "
In 1968, Vincent leaves the country before returning to Spain.
In 1969, returns to India and settled in Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh), one of the poorest districts of the country to continue their fight for the disadvantaged. That same year left the Society of Jesus and created, with whom he will be his future wife a few months later, Anne Perry Vicente Ferrer Foundation.
